Admission Requirements

The requirements to enter a UC, CSU, Private, or Out-of-State College after completion of high school can vary drastically. In order for a student to enter the 4-Yr College System, a set of academic requirements has to be completed (A-G Requirements), entrance exams are required (SAT or ACT Test), and a specific GPA may be required.

The requirement to enter a CCC or Vocational/Technical school is generally a High School Diploma, GED, or High School Proficiency Exam; please verify with the specific institution before you apply for admission.
Entrance Exams Required
- A 4-Year College will require either the SAT or ACT, as part of your academic requirements. Please be sure to check and verify that you will take the proper Entrance Exam for the college you plan to attend.
What about the Grade Point Average (GPA)?
- The GPA for each specific college will also vary, depending on the college you wish to attend.
A - G REQUIREMENTS
In order for a High School Graduate to enter a 4-Year College directly from high school, a student must typically meet the following requirements:
- Be a High School Graduate
- Complete the A-G Requirements (chart below), or satisfied through testings (College Board, AP Exams, College Classes, etc)
- Taken or Plan to take the SAT or ACT when applying
- Meet the required GPA
What is the A-G Requirements?
- Seven disciplines of academic preparations ranging from English to College Preparatory Elective, each with a specific required number of years. Here are the A-G Requirements updated as of 8/30/2017:

B: English | 4 Years: English 9-12 (CP, PreAP, or AP all acceptable) |

D: Laboratory Science | 2 Years: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Other Approved Science |
E: Language Other than English | 2 Years: Spanish or Italian at Bear Creek (must be the same language) |
F: Visual/Performing Arts | 1 Year: Art, Ceramics, Music, Theatre, Choir, Piano, etc . |
G: College Preparatory Elective | 1 Year: an additional year from any A-G approved courses |
