This is a BRAND NEW course this year (2018-19)! This class does not have any pre-requisites, but Drama 1 is recommended. In this class, we will develop a lot of the skills from Intro to Theatre, but we will put the focus on performing for kids of all ages! We will look at interpreting Fairy Tales, Nursery Rhymes, and Fables. We will create puppets and experiment with Puppet Theatre! We will do our own writing of kids' works, and we will put on several performances for local area elementary and middle schools! We are looking to even have a “Youth in Theatre Day,” where students come and learn different things from students in this class like props, puppets, and makeup! Come and re-discover your inner child, as we put on performances meant for kids of all ages!

This class is open to anyone and gives students the chance to be part of a production – even if they aren't available for the after school program! This class covers acting, Technical Theatre, and all of the things that go into creating a full production! We might also help with other “main stage” productions, as well! Come help us build a production, learn what it takes to “play” on stage, and get credit for it!

This year-long, activity-oriented course is designed to introduce students to the art of Theatre and ALL that goes into creating it.

"Yeah, that's great, Mrs. C, but what does that mean?"

It means that in this class we don't wear silly outfits, yell at the top of our lungs, and act like a bunch of weirdos.

Well... That's not ALL we do! We start with the basics - from breathing, posture, body awareness and mechanics, to stage movement. We do improvisational and theatre games! We do some lip synchs, we learn about falling techniques, and stage fighting. We do some scene work and monologues. We learn about blocking, costumes, and a whole bunch of other topics. Plus, we get to be involved with the stage productions here at the Creek - whether it's on stage, or behind the curtains!

All this, plus, Theatre 1 fulfills the CA State Standards for the Visual & Performing Arts as well as the VAPA requirements for graduation from BCHS and entrance to the UC/CSU system!

ADVANCED THEATRE (Already exists):

This class fulfills the same requirements, but instead of focusing on the basics and building theatrical skills, this class is for the more serious Theatre student. This class is also repeatable for credit! In the first year of this class, we build on the acting skills from Theatre 1, but students also get a chance to start branching out into either Technical Theatre, or Directing. We have a full-scale production that is only for students in this class, and we delve deeper into our understanding of Theatre. We continue with improvisation and other skills, as well. If students stay in their class for Senior Year, they will have a chance to star in, Stage Manage, or direct a production in the Spring!
