This is Hillary Harrell, principal, with important announcements for our students and parents about school rules and procedures. Last year we established “The Bruin Way,” which represents a set of expectations we have for our students and staff. My message today focuses on the “Be Prepared” element of the Bruin Way. It is our expectation that all students arrive to school and class on time. Starting tomorrow, August 17th, students will only be permitted to have one tardy. Each subsequent tardy will result in a detention after school. Detentions will be held after school from 2:30 to 3:15 every Tuesday and Thursday starting next week. If students receive a detention, he or she will be instructed where to report and we expect students to bring homework to complete during detention. Additionally, if students are tardy to class, they are expected to quietly and respectfully get a tardy pass to class and return to class in a timely manner. Students may receive a disciplinary consequence for failing to adhere to these expectations. I have two more reminders as I close out this message. One, once the 2:20 bells rings, students are expected to leave campus or join a supervised activity. Two, Back to School Night will be next Tuesday, August 22nd. We will be sending home more information soon. Have a great rest of your day!

Student Study Center - Tutorial

Bear Creek's Student Study Center is a tutorial session targeting students who may benefit from increased academic support.  This tutorial program matches younger students with high-achieving upperclassmen and teachers who are willing to volunteer their time and energy.  Tutees benefit by receiving regularly-scheduled one-on-one tutoring and study habit support in a small reassuring environment.  Tutors benefit by strengthening their own knowledge of subjects and their communication skills, and may be able to count tutorial time toward community service.  Senior tutors may be eligible for an award cord upon graduation.

The program meets during the regular school day from 8:20 - 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
